5th Grade Newsletter: January 25, 2016

S

pinosaurus-es and Chuck-e’s, oh my, was today!  Details of our field trip are to come next week.

Bible Ten Commandments given to the people of Israel through the servant, Moses, delineates the two principals—we as Christians are to love God and our neighbor.  Songs are being created based on these principals.

Math lessons 60-62 will be practiced and due tomorrow.   Daily from Wednesdays through Friday, one lesson each will be examined in detail.

Reading We continue our reading on the new novel: Bud, Not Buddy, a historical fiction novel set during the Great Depression.  We are captivated by Bud’s escapades of many hardships during a time of poverty and uncertainty itself. The January Reading Calendar is due next Tuesday. Language Arts/Mechanics, Usage, and Grammar (M.U.G.) Making plurals, rules for abbreviations, and using numbers will be practiced.

Spelling This week we are studying more “Endings” (lesson 16).  Vocabulary, we are continuing our lesson (8) on “The First Thanksgiving,” focusing on Latin root words (section D) and answering reading comprehension questions in sentence form (section E).  The test on Wordly Wise is this Wednesday.

Science  We continue studying on the chapter of “Matter.”  Health We continue our study on “Food for Vitality.”  History We are continuing to study the chapter on “Ancient Greece.”  The Passport test is this Thursday.
