5th Grade Newsletter: October 26, 2015

L
ast week, we are continuing our review of “Minerals and Rocks” in Science to prepare for the chapter test.  We are continuing the second chapter of History on the “Fertile Crescent: Cradle of Civilization.”  Math lessons were on “Halves, Fourths, Tenths,” “Dollars and Parentheses,” and “Listing Factors of Whole Numbers.”  English has been full of peer editing our final chapter of Esperanza Rising, MUG (Mechanics, Usage, and Grammar) on apostrophes, Spelling, and Vocabulary.

Last week: In Fall Goal Planning Conferences, meeting with the parents to set manageable, and achievable goals was simply a blessing.  Thank you to who volunteered to help make the Carnival a success.  The kids seemed to enjoy the booths, prizes, and fun with friends and family after a successful quarter.  The Scholastic books sales is building our very own class library.  Thank you for donating a book for our minds to read and enjoy!!!

This week: Operation Christmas Child is kicking off.  Come and watch our skits tomorrow, explaining the why and how for OCC in sharing the gift of the Goodnews of Jesus to the lost.

ast week, we completed our study of “Minerals and Rocks” in Science and will begin reviewing for the chapter test.  We began the second chapter of History on the “Fertile Crescent: Cradle of Civilization.”  Math lessons were on equal group stories and dividing and writing a remainder.  English has been full of writing our final chapter of Esperanza Rising and applying literary devices (idioms, exaggeration, metaphors, similes, and personification), MUG (Mechanics, Usage, and Grammar), Spelling and Vocabulary.  Teacher development was a powerful time to learn how to be more effective in teaching this generation for Christ.

This week: Fall Goal Planning Conferences begin Tuesday, October 20th and end on Thursday.  Scholastic books sales is coming up next week; please donate from the library or entirely online—http://onlinebookfairs.scholastic.com/wishlisthome.aspx—a book for our very own class library!!!  Our unique class activation code is PHGGR. For the Carnival next Friday night, we still need supervisors for our two bounce houses of 30-minute time slots from set up (5:30 pm) to clean up (8:30 pm). The sign-up sheet is posted next to the class door.

Operation Christmas Child Kick-off is next week.  Come and watch our skits, explaining the why and how. If you are interested in decorating the glass display in the hallway with two examples of a boy and a girl box, please email me.  These examples will be a great way to encourage others to get in the spirit of sharing the gift of the Goodnews of Jesus to the lost.

Field Trip to Mount Saint Helen’s is on October 30th.  We have all our chaperones.  However, if you would still like to attend, you are welcome but will need to get your background checked and pay the admission fee of $8.  We will go on a 2 ½ mile hike, so bring some comfortable running shoes and water. This will be an educational field trip, requiring work to be done on our trip; thus, bring a clip board and a pencil.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO!!!
