Chang’s Future Leaders: Newsletter Jan. 19-23

What we are learning…

Bible Wednesday, to remember the Bible lessons, we will be quizzed on 8.1-4. Memory Verse: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

History Thursday, our reviewed study of the “Countries of Central and Southern Asia” on sections 5A-D will be a quizzed.

Science   Friday, there will be a “Heat and Energy” quiz on sections 4A-D.

Health Friday, continue working on pages 30 (bones) and 35-36.

Geography/Writing Project Presentations are intriguing, and these expository paragraphs reveal countries that seem quite safe, enjoyable, and diverse culturally, politically, and religiously.  The descriptions enliven the countries, making them realistic and live-able.  Graphic organizers will be used to study more of the history of MLK, Jr. and Rosa Parks.

Reading Keep reading!  In The Tale of Despereaux, we have found flashback, simile, onomatopoeia, and personification.  More will be found.

What we are learning…
Bible Memory Verse Hebrews 13:15 (NIV): Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.
Reading Keep reading and coloring the days.  The historical fiction fantasy of The Tales of Despereaux reveals gems of literature and wise truths.
Science “Heat and Energy” will be looked at more deeply.
Health Complete for Friday the respiratory and muscular system handouts.
Geography/Writing Project Finally, the day has arrived and the final piece—essay—completes the project.  Once again, the essays may be neatly typed or printed, and grammar does count.  Presentations begin tomorrow, and they will be a treat for all.
History India’s interesting history is unearthed, revealing its caste system, quest for religion (Hinduism, Buddhism, and Muslim), and desirable resources by other countries.
Language Arts Grammar is essential for writing enthralling stories or sharing of convincing facts.  Write Source helps to hone works of literary art that can be read without hiccups.  Also, vocabulary offers articulation in using words that are terse and precise in packaging and portraying meaning.

Mrs. Chang’s 5th Grade: Newsletter Jan. 5-9

Christmas Cheer Scrumptious treats, sharing Christ’s love tangibly through wrapped gifts for our adopted family, and popcorn and a movie, Joseph: King of Dreams, were simply delightful and most deserved for all our diligent workers!
What we are learning…
Reading logs are due tomorrow.  Also, The Tales of Despereaux will continued to be reviewed for comprehension and the use of literary elements and techniques.  Geography/Writing Project The essays (rough drafts) are to be edited for additions or changes in order to address the eleven questions (in the handout) about the country and people.  Finally, these creative and colorful flags, political and physical maps, and essays will be presented next Tuesday (13th).  The essays must be neatly typed or printed and mindful of grammar.  Science The next chapter is on “Heat and Energy,” which also nicely coincides with our upcoming field trip to Museum of Glass.  Health On Friday, there will be a quiz on the anatomy of teeth and the digestive system.  Language Arts Grammar is essential for writing enthralling stories or sharing of convincing facts.  Write Source helps to hone works of literary art that can be read without hiccups.  To name only a few interruptions studied, they are run-ons, rambling sentences, fragments, verbs that don’t agree with their subjects, and pronouns with their antecedents.

Bible Memory Verse Isaiah 41:10 (ESV):  Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
